Attic - Holliston

BEFORE  GARAGE-GURU  MAKE-OVER

This client's large attic, separated into several usable rooms, had become unmanageable.  Childhood keepsakes, old college notebooks, seasonal decorations, childrens toys, future to-do projects ... all sorts of things had found their way up the narrow attic stairs.  The client had attempted to bring some order to this space, which was a start, but she was quickly overwhelmed with the immensity of the project.  She also envisioned using part of the area as a future living space to be finished at a later date, so permanent structural changes in the main attic room for the sake of storage did not make sense at this time.

AFTER  GARAGE-GURU  MAKE-OVER

Keeping in mind the future building plans of the client, the Garage-Guru dedicated the 'true' attic space solely to storage, practically doubling the area by building convenient shelves right into the rafters.  All seasonal decorations, household files that had to be kept but were rarely referenced, and childhood keepsakes (boxed and labeled) slid neatly onto these new shelves.  Once these types of items had been sorted and filed into the customized cubbies of the smaller attic room, the contents of the remaining two liveable attic rooms were itemized and organized into easy-carry boxes marked for 'disposal', 'donation', or 'use elsewhere'.   Any items not falling into any of these categories remained in the attic at the client's request, conveniently located for quick and easy access, while leaving a major portion of the attic open to the children for dress-up and rainy-day play.
