Referrals Closet - Holliston
BEFORE GARAGE-GURU MAKE-OVER
The closets in this turn-of-the-century house have never been updated. This client loves the old-fashioned house
and does not want to change the antique structure. But storage space has become an issue. This bathroom closet
is a prime example. Three rough shelves on the left held a tumble of towels; several extremely narrow shelves on the
right held a mish-mash of toiletries. The single long shelf at the top was almost completely inaccessible, and the middle
wall space and the inside of the door were totally underutilized.

AFTER GARAGE-GURU MAKE-OVER
With minimal cost of supplies, the client now has the luxury of filling a real linen closet,
while staying true to the spirit of her antique home.

Additional shelves were built on the left to handle more piles of linens. The single long shelf at the top of the
closet was removed and replaced by more accessible shelves on both the left and the right. The narrow shelves on the
right were replaced by shelves double in width, which were more appropriate for holding bins filled with smaller toiletry
items.
Wire shelving was affixed to the back of the closet, between the two sets of shelves. Perfect for bottles of shampoo,
boxes of diaper wipes, or bars of soap. Because of the narrowness of the wire shelving, access to the shelves on either
side remains unimpeded. Small hooks at the bottom of the wire shelving unit handle hanging towels, child-sized housecoats,
or diaper bags.
The inside of the closet door became the new home for a sturdy 20-pocket hanging holder, while retaining high hooks for
housecoats.
A whole lot more storage space, and - even better - once the door is shut, all the 'stuff' is neatly tucked out of sight.
Mission accomplished.
